I whipped this up incredibly quickly a few weeks ago, but have wanted to make bath salts for a while. It was so easy and if you haven’t already noticed a pattern with my peppermint obsession, like here and here, this season then you’re missing out. A few months ago I realized that peppermint tea soothes my stomach and in turn I’ve become addicted to all things peppermint. Not a bad problem when it’s cold and snowy out.
1 cup Epsom salt
1/2 cup sea salt
1 tbsp. baking soda
1 tbsp. olive oil
1/2 tsp. peppermint oil
Combine the Epsom salt, sea salt and baking soda until well mixed. Add in the olive oil until dry mixture is fully coated. Add the peppermint oil and continue mixing. You can also add food coloring if you’d like the color to be red. I chose not to because I despise food dyes and don’t want them seeping into my skin when I’m in a bath and my pores are open more than normal. However, they do make the salts look much prettier if you’re gifting them.
I just used a recycled container that I had lying around, nothing glamorous as it sits in my bathroom closet. If I were giving this as a gift I’d use a mason jar or another cute container. Sprinkle the desired amount into warm bath water, about a quarter cup. I loved the added perk that my sinuses were totally clear when I took a bath. You could make any scent/flavor you’d like depending on what essential oils you have on hand. Happy bath taking!
