mirrors, lamps, art and curtains {bedroom accessories}

February 3, 2016 by Lindsey 1 Comment

When it comes to decor I err on the side of simple (shocking, I know). I don’t like things cluttered and I’m not a big fan of lots of “things” that collect dust.

I found the mirror for $20 at the thrift store. It was all yellowed and gross, but I liked the detail and shape of the frame, especially the curves mixed in with all the boxy furniture we already have in there. It got a quick coat of hammered black paint that we had leftover and hung on the wall. It’s amazing how a good mirror can make a room look so much larger.

Everything on top of the dresser were items we already had. A few framed things, a love knot sculpture we got for our wedding and a vintage fan I picked up for a few bucks at a yard sale last year (and it works great!).

I picked up the curtains for $20 and the lamps for around $30 each at Ross. It was much more than I wanted to spend on a few lamps, but I looked everywhere for similar ones with a mercury glass look and couldn’t find any. In the end I’m glad I went with them. And, they really look great on the nightstands.

The art above the bed is from an amazing Etsy seller. She has affordable prints and so many to choose from. When you order you receive many sizes and then you can have them printed wherever you’d like. I had mine printed on photo paper at Costco’s photo center. I love the prints and have already bought more to hang throughout the house.

Bedroom Art

For the ceiling light, I used this method to cover a lampshade and hang it over the light bulb. I LOVE the pattern of the fabric, which is why I went the lampshade method, but I think I want some sort of simple chandelier or light fixture down the line.

And that’s really it. We keep things simple around here. It’s too small of a space to have it cluttered with random things. As usual, I love it. It’s the first time I think we’ve ever had what seems like a nice, calming bedroom. It always ends up the last room to get a makeover and then we end up moving, but this time it was higher on the list and we’re not going anywhere!
