what I’ve read lately + your recommendations

October 11, 2018 by Lindsey Leave a Comment

I have always had a love of reading. Reading anything – books, magazines, articles, blogs, etc. and I don’t have just one topic I love to read. I’m a learner at heart and I love reading and learning about anything and everything mostly. Well, except mystery and crime, those aren’t my jam.

This summer I set a goal to start reading more books – I’m always reading things online but I love the comfort of reading a book at the end of the day. I’ve been trying to utilize audio books and eBooks more often too, and as I shared in this post I don’t ever buy books. Everything comes from the library.

As maternity leave is nearing I’ve decided to start a list of books that I can read during middle of the night feedings. Last time around I read one or two books and then would just sit on my phone each and every night and I hated it. So this time I’m trying to prepare more.

Wanted to first share what I’ve read lately:

Girl, Wash Your Face: This was a great, easy to read, book about life in general and the lies we as women, mothers and working mothers tell ourselves. It was funny and light but also really powerful and thought-provoking as a working mom.

The 5 Second Rule: When you have a thought or idea you must physically act some way or another within 5 seconds or our brain passes it by and moves on. Ultimately you’ll procrastinate less and reach your goals sooner if you start something, anything, within 5 seconds.

All the Pretty Things: A wonderful memoir about life growing up in the south with a dysfunctional family and how Edie found her way out to pursue her dreams of being a doctor and having a family. Loved this read.

Reading People: A deep analyzation of people and how we coexist with differing personality types, lifestyles and more.

The Year of Less: A girl who gave up shopping and spending for a year to find a better life for herself and understand what truly matters to her. Great book that shows you how to really evaluate your belongings.

The 5 Love Languages: This was by far one of my favorite books I’ve read recently. It was truly fascinating. So much so I might write an entire post on it. There are five love languages and we all fall into those categories. Knowing and understanding which we are ultimately can make for better relationships, understanding of your spouse and a household that operates well.

I’d love to know what you guys have been reading lately – what books do your recommend and suggest? I’d like to incorporate more fiction into my list as well, mostly what I’ve read lately is non-fiction, but ultimately a good mix of both would make me happy!
